DTR PS2/GC Enhancements
1. Skill levels/tuning
a. Skill level selection (Easy "Rookie", Normal, Hard "Super Cop"). This allows for broader appeal to gamers of all skill levels.
b. Increased default life award at each 'continue' (Xbox was 10% life restore). This should alleviate any conditions where the player cannot reach health/armor resources in a given area.
i. Continuing on Easy restores the player to 100% life
ii. Continuing on Normal restores the player to 50% life
iii. Continuing on Hard restores the player to 25% life.
c. Some enemies will drop health kits when the player is below 50% life.
d. Enemy weapon accuracy has been reduced when Jack is moving.
e. Chapters 1-4 feature game tuning that decreases the frequency at which enemies will shoot at Jack.
f. Players can select difficult upon loading a saved game should they find the current experience is too easy or challenging.
g. Unarmed enemies can no longer knock Jack down.
h. Most unarmed enemies can no longer dodge Jack's attacks, making them easier to defeat.
i. Most unarmed enemies will rarely break Jack's throws.
j. Enemy attack damage against Jack has been reduced.
k. Boss encounters are better tuned and Pinnacle now has visual cues as to how to defeat him (flashing buttons).
"Selectable skill levels provide a uniquely tuned gaming experience for everyone from the first-time action player to the seasoned gaming veteran."
2. Disarms are easier to unlock; requiring the player to perform 3 rather than 5 to unlock a new one.
"Increased access to unlocking DTR's over-the-top disarms sequences."
3. Human Shield victim is now invulnerable for two seconds when initially grabbed. This allows the player to collect a shield and get a guaranteed period of use. In the Xbox version, a shield with low health might be killed right away, making the feature feel useless at times. Further, we've made controlling the Human Shield 'screen relative' and faster to make the features more effective and quicker paced.
"Enhanced Human Shield mode allows for tighter control and faster movement, while added 'shield victim' durability increases effectiveness."
4. Reduced the number of camera mode transitions and added the ability to 'invert camera' in the options menu to reverse the direction that the camera rotates when you move the Right Stick.
"Invert camera option allows the player to customize the camera controls."
5. Hand-to-Hand fighting balance has improved significantly:
a. New and improved attack combos for Jack
b. Basic enemies no longer dodge (only block) Jack's attacks, increasing the pace of the fighting.
c. Jack can no longer be knocked down by a basic enemy attack, unless thrown. This also increases the pace.
d. Overall melee damage that enemies do to Jack has been decreased
e. Basic enemies no longer kick. This makes Jack look more heroic and skillful than the opposition.
"Enhanced fighting system is faster and more furious, featuring additional attack combos for Jack and unique enemy attacks."
6. Various Sub Bosses/Bosses have been revisited and balanced. For example, "Tap Buttons" will flash when Pinnacle chokes Jack to better cue the player.
"Not sure what to say here that won't sound like a simple 'improvement' over Xbox???"
7. Mini-games
a. Difficulty has been balanced.
b. Redundancy has been reduced.
c. Prison gym games (speedbag, weightlifting) have been made optional.
"Minigames are easier to play, while others have been made optional based on the story context."
8. Auto-Targeting system is smarter, choosing more appropriate threats.
"Enhanced Auto-Targeting system is smarter, choosing the most appropriate threat."
9. Off-Screen indicator arrows point to enemies that are shooting at Jack from outside the camera view.
"Indicator arrows point the player to dangerous, off-screen enemies."
10. 'Quick Shadow Attack' allows the player to quickly auto-target an enemy and press Square to command Shadow. This eliminates the need to scroll through your inventory to select him.
"Instant access to Shadow's devastating attack using new 'quick attack' feature."
11. 'Quick Holster/Draw' allow the player to attack/disarm without lifting their thumb from the Left Stick improving the flow of the action. Essentially, you can shoot at an enemy to keep him in his react state while running towards him, while still in motion, you can press L2 to holster your gun and disarm him.
"Shoot and disarm enemies in stride using the new 'quick holster' feature."
12. Tossing canisters has been enhanced as you can toggle the auto-targeting to another target. In the Xbox version, while a canister was in motion, it was the only thing you could auto-target, now you can toggle away if the canister hits an undesirable object or if you simply change your mind.
"Toss-n-shoot has been enhanced to allow the player to switch targets while a canister is in flight."
